When a wager was made, one inventor decided to cross the world and get back home in 80 days. Only, at the time, transportation options were quite limited in Around the World in 80 days. Today, however, we’ve got so many options to travel, and with flights allowing you to travel to another country in a matter of hours, it’s the perfect time for you and bae to attempt your own Around the World challenge. This time, we’re pushing it a bit further, and sticking to 30 days.
This kind of adventure could be a great way for you and bae to connect with black culture around the world, see different places, and learn more about how other parts of the world live. At the same time, it’s an excellent opportunity to explore different cuisines, go to live shows, enjoy festivals, and to bring home a couple of souvenirs.
1st Stop: Brazil
Let’s start the journey by sticking to the Americas first, but instead of traveling domestically, book a flight for you and bae to Brazil. This is one of the best places in South America that black couples should visit when they travel together.
Brazil is a big country, but I’d definitely recommend you head over to Rio. This is like a central hub that a lot of black people enjoy visiting. You’ll also notice that there’s a large focus on modernization when you take a look at Rio.
First, you’ll need a place to stay. The Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro is definitely a great choice that offers affordable rooms overlooking the beautiful beaches. If you’d like to treat bae to a more luxurious experience, then the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana is another option to look at.
There are also lots of things to do in Rio. If the two of you want to explore some culture and history, then visit the Pedra do Sal. It’s a historical landmark that plays an important part in the history of this area. There’s also the Afro-Brazilian History & Immersion Walking Tour. When the sun sets, head over to the Samba Night at Pedra do Sal. It’s a fun and exciting experience.
I’d say spend at least about a week in Brazil before you move on with your journey.
2nd Stop: Ghana
Your next stop should be Ghana. When it comes to black culture, Ghana is one of the best places for you and bae to visit. At the same time, the country has adopted modern technology over the last few years, so you can still expect a great experience with lots of things to do.
The Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra and the Accra Marriott Hotel are both great options when it comes to staying in Ghana.
For a trip down memory lane, visit the National Museum of Ghana, the Artist Alliance Gallery, and the new Kejetia Market.
As you explore Ghana, you should also make plans to visit the Elmina Castle, the Kakum National Park, and the Cape Coast Castle. Traveling through a couple of towns in Ghana is also definitely a good idea. Spend the second week of your journey in Ghana, as there’s a lot of rich culture to explore and discover.
3rd Stop: London
When you travel a black couples’ trip, especially when you want to visit different countries around the world in just about a month, London might not be at the top of your list. However, I’ve found that a lot of black people actually overlook the culture that this city has to offer. It’s a city in the United Kingdom, and one thing you’ll quickly note is the distinction between black Britains and those in the United States.
For a black couple exploring the world and culture at the same time, I’d say Brixton is your best best when looking at where to stay in London. There are a lot of historical sightings nearby, and you’ll find that the neighborhood is both down-to-earth and friendly.
There are several black-owned businesses that you can support in Brixton. To support these places, consider visiting some of the following locations:
- Mama’s Jerk
- Fish Wings and Tings
- Caribe
- Negril
- Round Table Books
Be sure to explore more than just Brixton, though. London has a really advanced transportation system, so take advantage of that to get to different neighborhoods and see what the city truly has to offer.
4rth Stop: The Phillippines
I’d definitely recommend spending your last week in the Phillippines. This is actually a type of archipelagic country. It’s located in the Southeast area of Asia and has quite a lot to offer.
When exploring culture, then something that a lot of black people overlook about the Phillippines. While this country mostly has Filipinos, there are other cultures, too. It’s considered a safe country for black people, and here’s the thing – there are actually indigenous black Filipinos. That’s the thing that a lot of people overlook about the Phillippines.
They’re called the Aeta, and they are known for growing up to a length of less than 4’8. These people are closely related to another group of indigenous blacks, known as the Negrito. The term “Negrito” translates to “little black person”.
If you want to explore this part of the Phillippines, I’d suggest booking a hotel in Manila. The Pampanga city where the Aeta lives is two hours away from Manila. As you might know, Manila is the capital of the Philippines, so you have quite a lot to choose from in terms of accommodation and what to do.
Conclusion
There you have it, four countries in four weeks, letting you travel around the world in 30 days. As a black couple, these places can be a great way for both of you to explore black culture and history. At the same time, there are so many different dishes to try out, shops to explore, and even sights to see. Each spot that I picked out offers a bit of everything. That way, you and bae can have a great time while you’re there, regardless of your interests. With this guidance, you don’t even need to get a travel agency to help plan the perfect trip.
