How Black Couples Can Find And Support Black-Owned Businesses While Traveling

Share

As a black couple, you and bae might enjoy supporting businesses that were created by other black people. It’s a great way to help the black economy and promote black empowerment.

However, it’s not always easy to actually find black owned businesses as you travel. Even in the United States, only about 2.4% of businesses are owned by black people.

In this post, I’m going to give you some guidance to make sure you’ll have an easier time finding black-owned businesses that you can bae can support.

Using Online Resources To Find Black-Owned Businesses

The internet is one of the best resources we have in the modern day. Businesses are creating profiles on platforms like Google Business and going onto social media to promote their stories and services.

This is why online resources are a great option if you want to find black-owned businesses that you can bae can support.

Start by considering what you are looking for and where you are. Let’s say, for example, the two of you are in the mood for a nice dinner, and you find yourselves in London. A quick search on Google for “black owned restaurants in London” will give you several results to pick from.

You’ll see several lists made by bloggers, travelers, and even by business owners themselves. This search gave me 45 different local restaurants in London to pick from, all owned by black people.

You can also visit TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms to help with your search for black-owned businesses. Of course, it’s not just limited to restaurants. You can find black-owned businesses that offer all kinds of products and services, like fashion stores, spas, and much more.

Word Of Mouth And Local Recommendations

While the internet is an excellent resource to help you and bae find businesses owned by black people to support, you shouldn’t overlook the role of local recommendations. One thing that you should note is that the usefulness of this strategy largely depends on your travel destination.

If you’re going to a place where black culture is celebrated, asking around will quickly help you identify businesses that the two of you can visit and support. People are usually very helpful when it comes to showing you in the right direction for different kinds of black-owned businesses in these areas.

If you find that people don’t really have an answer for you when asking in person, then it might be a good idea to seek out a local information center. Most cities and towns have this kind of center, which provides a variety of helpful data and sometimes even brochures for tourists looking to explore the area. Some cities also have websites that are dedicated to helping you explore the region and find what you’re looking for, which helps you combine both of the strategies I talked about.

Conclusion

Black people should support each other. This way, we can help our own economy thrive and make sure those who don’t have certain privileges in life get the support they need to make something of themselves. You and bae can use both online and offline resources to help you find black-owned businesses at your travel destinations, so be sure to take advantage of the tips I shared.
